Each portrait is a collaboration between the patron and the artist. It starts with a consultation to discuss the details of the painting being commissioned. The convesation will help finalize the size and complexity of the painting and will allow Kasia to provide the fee and schedule for the project. Once this is agreed, she will draft a contract. A third of the fee is due upon the signing of the agreement.
Depending on the complexity of the pose, the painting will require from two to four three-hour sittings. These can be done at the artist's studio or at the sitter's home. During the first sitting, Kasia will take photographs of the sitter and do a color sketch. She will review the photos with the patron to select the desired pose.
Kasia will create a small oil sketch to show what the final painting will look like. The patron will have the opportunity to request changes before the painting is begun. The second third of the fee is due upon the patron's acceptance of the sketch.
Once the sketch is approved, the artist will start working on the portrait. The work may take from three months to a year depending on the size of the picture and other committments. As the work progresses, Kasia may need additional sittings. She may also request to borrow clothes and other elements included in the painting.
The finished painting will be presented for approval. Kasia will work with the patron to make adjustments and make sure that the patron is delighted with the final painting.
